Introduction

I currently have almost 18,000 images in my camera roll on my iPhone X. An abundance of images, paired with an assignment from my Introduction to Information Systems class at Boston University, birthed this blog.

The mission of this blog is to use my camera roll as a database and release certain images while pairing them with a story, description, or even poem. I want to share my true stories through visuals and text.

There are many goals of blogging about my images, the main ones I can think of are: entertainment, inspiration, and curiosity. I would be more than happy to know that any of my images or stories were able to bring a smile to someone’s face–I imagine most of the entertaining pictures and blogs will be found under Lifestyle and Niche. Inspiration comes to mind when I think about what this blog would ideally become, because I’d like to use WordPress as a platform to post about the arts of photography and modeling. It can be a very thought-provoking world! Curiosity is the third topic that comes to my mind because I hope that by sharing images hand-in-hand with stories, readers/viewers will think to themselves about how differently others encounter and perceive the world.

Vampiric

This image is closely tied with the one I described in “Overcast” as it was a part of the same shoot, similar concept, same photographer, etc. This shot was one of those posted in “Achromatic” by 7 Hues Magazine. I love the photographer I shot with, she’s an extremely talented woman and she was the creative director behind this shoot. I knew her before she got married, so at the time of this shoot her name was Jana Medeiros.

This shot in particular is very interesting because it resonates very vampiric energy, the low contrast, saturation of color, and high exposure work together to convey that vibe. This shot was taken actually in the Lynch Family Skatepark, which in and of itself was an experience (lots of chaotic energy of skaters entirely surrounding us and bikers practically biking into us). Thankfully, the skate ramp in the image above wasn’t being used by anyone, so we were able to get a very successful shot out of it.

Overcast

Photographer: Jana Lee
Models: Ryan O’Sullivan, Sarah Mitchell

This image was taken in October of 2018. Other images from the same photo shoot / concept submission were published in 7 Hues Magazine, “Achromatic”, but I think this shot is my favorite of the bunch. All of the articles I’m dressed in are from Zara, excluding the Guess boots, I believe Sarah is also wearing Zara, paired with a Moncler jacket and Gucci belt. This shot was taken at the Lynch Family Skatepark in Cambridge, MA, and just behind us is the Zakim Bridge.

I’ve always seen this look as one of my strongest. The emotion conveyed, the contrast and sharpness of each structure in the image working together to show a certain level of intensity. By the way, I love the fact that there’s also a Duck Boat Tour going on underneath the bridge Sarah and I are on; I think it brings reality into the abstract world of editorial. The fact that the American flag is on the side of the boat is also a nice touch, completing the red, white, and blue mix in the image. I’m also just a huge fan of clouds because they’re beautiful to look at and always unique; the overcast in front of the blue sky helps divide this photo into a simple and thought-provoking half, and a more detail-oriented and complicated editorial half.
